Scrum PSM-I Exam - Topic 3 Question 73 Discussion

Actual exam question for Scrum's PSM-I exam
Question #: 73
Topic #: 3
[All PSM-I Questions]

As the Development Team starts work during the Sprint, it realizes it has selected too much work to finish in the Sprint. What should it do?

Show Suggested Answer Hide Answer
Suggested Answer: A, B

According to the Scrum Guide, two characteristics of the Daily Scrum are its location and time remain constant and its purpose is to inspect progress toward the Sprint Goal and adapt the Sprint Backlog. These characteristics promote consistency, transparency, and adaptation within the Development Team. The other options are not valid characteristics of the Daily Scrum, as they are either irrelevant (such as being held first thing in the morning) or inappropriate (such as being free form, facilitated by the team lead, or consisting of the Scrum Master asking for status).

B seems unrealistic, why would you offload work?

Wait, can you really just remove items mid-sprint?

I vaguely recall that we should address issues as they arise in the Sprint, so option C sounds like the right approach, but I'm a bit unsure.

I feel like finding another team to take on the work is not really in the spirit of Scrum, so I think option B is out.

I remember a practice question where we discussed the importance of not compromising the definition of "Done." So, option D seems wrong to me.

I think the team should definitely communicate with the Product Owner early on, but I'm not sure if it's option C or something else.

Reducing the definition of "Done" to get everything completed doesn't seem like a great idea to me. That would just be a band-aid solution and not really address the root of the problem.

Okay, I've got it! The right move is to work with the Product Owner as soon as possible in the Sprint to remove some of the work. That way we can stay on track and deliver what's most important.

Hmm, I'm a bit unsure about this one. Should we really be informing the Product Owner at the Sprint Review instead of earlier in the Sprint? That doesn't seem like the best way to address the issue proactively.

This is a tricky one. I think the best approach is to work closely with the Product Owner to remove some of the work or backlog items, as that seems like the most transparent and collaborative way to handle the situation.

I think the key here is to be upfront and transparent with the Product Owner. Informing them at the Sprint Review is a bit late in my opinion. We should work together to adjust the scope as soon as we realize we've taken on too much.

I think the Fields tab is the one that lets you choose the data for the schedule. That's my best guess.

Hmm, this seems straightforward. I'll need to carefully read through the options and select the three that match the configurations for NCS 2000 100G line cards.

Okay, I think I've got a strategy for this. The key is that the table name should only be prompted for the first time, while the column names and condition should be prompted each time. I'll try option E and see if that works.

I think the team should have planned better in the first place. But hey, at least they're not trying to just power through and deliver subpar work. Option C is the way to go.

Trying to deliver subpar work is never a good idea. The team should definitely collaborate with the Product Owner to make necessary adjustments.

Option B is like trying to pass the buck. That's not how Scrum works. The team has to own up to their commitments and work with the Product Owner to adjust the scope accordingly.

Haha, option D is a classic 'work smarter, not harder' approach. Reducing the definition of 'Done' to get everything done? Not the most sustainable solution, but I'll give them points for creativity!

I agree with Maynard. The team shouldn't try to hide the issue or pass it on to another team. Being transparent and collaborating with the Product Owner is the best way to manage the situation.
