ISTQB ATM Exam - Topic 3 Question 41 Discussion

Actual exam question for ISTQB's ATM exam
Question #: 41
Topic #: 3
[All ATM Questions]

Consider the following skills assessment spreadsheet for your test team (consisting of four team members):

This spreadsheet has three sections: technical expertise, testing skills and professionalism.

The skill levels for each skill area for both the ''technical expertise'' and ''testing skills'' sections have been rated on a four-point scale:

- E (Expert): indicates that a person has expert knowledge and experience in the skill area

- B (Beginner): indicates that a person has some knowledge and experience in the skill area but he/she is not autonomous

- W (Wants to learn): indicates that a person has no knowledge or experience in the skill area but he/she wants to learn that skill

- NI (Not Interested): indicates that a person has no knowledge or experience in the skill area and he/she is not interested to learn that skill

The skill levels for each skill area of the ''professionalism'' section have been rated on a three point scale (H=High, M=Medium, L=Low).

Consider the following analysis of testing skills performed on four people. Alex, Robert, John and Mark (all the skills have been rated on an ascending scale. The higher the score, the better the skill):

Which of these people, based on this analysis, would you expect to be most suitable to work specifically as test designer?

I’m surprised Robert didn’t score higher in professionalism.

I practiced a similar question before, and I think professionalism also plays a role, but I’m uncertain how much weight it carries in this context.

I feel like John could be a good candidate too, but I can't recall his specific ratings compared to the others.

I think Alex might be the best choice since he had high ratings in testing skills, but I need to double-check the spreadsheet again.

I remember we discussed the importance of technical expertise for a test designer, but I'm not sure who among them has the best skills.

The question is straightforward, but I'll need to carefully review the data and think through the relative importance of each skill area to determine the best candidate. I'm confident I can work through this systematically.

I'm a bit unsure about how to weigh the different skill areas. Is technical expertise or testing skills more important for a test designer role? And how much do the professionalism ratings factor in?

Based on the information provided, I think Alex has the strongest overall testing skills, with the most "E" (Expert) ratings. That seems like the best indicator for who would be most suitable as a test designer.

Hmm, the skill ratings are a bit confusing with the different scales. I'll need to make sure I understand how to interpret the "E", "B", "W", and "NI" ratings for technical expertise and testing skills, as well as the "H", "M", and "L" ratings for professionalism.

This looks like a straightforward skills assessment question. I'll need to carefully analyze the data to determine which candidate has the best testing skills and would be most suitable as a test designer.

I'm a bit confused on this one. I know the 7450 ESS is a service router, but I'm not sure about the specific features it supports. I'll have to make an educated guess and hope for the best.

If I recall correctly, PUT is used for updating resources. So, I lean towards PUT /license for assigning the license.

I'm a bit unsure about how to approach this, the LDIF format is new to me. I'll need to do some quick research on the structure.

Okay, I think I've got it. The key is to use the budgeted sales volume for month 2 to determine the closing inventory for month 1, and then add that to the sales volume for month 1 to get the production budget.

I'm a bit confused by the different components listed - Packet Decoder, Log Decoder, Concentrator, Broker. I'll need to review my notes to make sure I understand the differences between these.

Ah, the good old 'four-point scale' - where 'E' stands for 'Excellent,' 'B' stands for 'Barely Passing,' 'W' stands for 'Woefully Inadequate,' and 'NI' stands for 'Not Interested in Life.'

I wonder if they'll have a section on 'how to design tests that actually crash the system' - that's the real skill we need!

Tracey's testing skills, especially in the areas of test design and defect management, seem to be the weakest among the four candidates. I don't think he would be the most suitable choice for a test designer role.

Dominga's skills are mostly focused on the technical aspects, so he might not be the best fit for a test designer position, which requires more specialized testing skills.

Mila's skills seem a bit more balanced across different areas, but the test design and defect management scores are a bit lower than Delpha's. Still, he could be a good candidate for the role.
