Actual exam question for Microsoft's PL-500 exam
Question #: 66
Topic #: 3
[All PL-500 Questions]

A company uses Microsoft 365 apps. You are building a flow that is triggered when a new email arrives.

If an email message contains a Microsoft Excel workbook attachment the solution must post the Excel data to an external customer relationship management (CRM) system that runs on a user's workstation. The CRM system is not accessible by using an API.

You need to design the solution.

Which three actions should you perform? Each correct answer presents part of the solution.

NOTE: Each correct selection is worth one point.

I think the cloud flow trigger is unnecessary here.

Definitely need to create a desktop flow for this.

I vaguely recall something about retrieving email messages in desktop flows, but I can't remember if that's C or not. It feels relevant though.

I think we practiced a similar question where we used the When a new email arrives trigger. That might be D, but I’m not 100% confident.

I'm not entirely sure, but I feel like we might need to define an input variable if we're dealing with file attachments. So maybe B?

I remember we talked about using desktop flows for tasks that interact with local applications, so I think A is a good choice.

I'm a little unsure about the "Implement the Create file action from the OneDrive connector in a cloud flow" option. Doesn't that seem like it might not be relevant since we're using a desktop flow?

I'm feeling pretty confident about this one. The key is to use the desktop flow to retrieve the email and attachment, then use that data to post to the CRM system.

Okay, I think I've got it. We need to use a desktop flow since the CRM system is not accessible via an API. And we'll need to define an input variable to handle the Excel file attachment.

Hmm, I'm a bit confused about the difference between a desktop flow and a cloud flow. I'll need to review those concepts before I can decide.

Wait, hold up, you're telling me we can't use an API to access the CRM system? What is this, the Dark Ages? I'm going with B, C, and a good old-fashioned carrier pigeon to deliver the data. That's the only way this is gonna work!

This is a tricky one, but I think the answer is B, C, and D. The desktop flow gives us the ability to work with the Excel attachment, and the cloud flow trigger is necessary to kick things off when a new email arrives.

Yes, and we also need to define an input variable of type file.

Definitely B, C, and E. We need to be able to access the Excel file attachment, so the desktop flow with a file input is key. And since the CRM system can't be accessed via API, we'll have to post the data from the Excel file to OneDrive instead.

Hmm, I think I'd go with B, C, and D. Creating a desktop flow with an input variable for the file attachment seems crucial, and we need to retrieve the email messages from the desktop flow. The cloud flow can handle the trigger and creating the file on OneDrive.

Creating a desktop flow and using the cloud flow for the trigger and file creation makes sense. Good choices.
