HP Exam HPE6-A73 Topic 1 Question 116 Discussion

Actual exam question for HP's HPE6-A73 exam
Question #: 116
Topic #: 1
[All HPE6-A73 Questions]

A network administrator is managing a network that deploys a multicast service. The administrator has

multiple streams successfully being routed by PIM-DM in the network. The administrator then adds a new stream with a destination address of 239.0.0.1. However, clients who have not joined the stream are receiving it.

What should the administrator do to fix this problem?

Show Suggested Answer Hide Answer
Suggested Answer: B

MAC/IP overlap. 239.0.0.1 would be the same MAC for 224.0.0.1. 224.0.0.0/24 is always flooded over every port.

I think defining the 239.0.0.1 stream on the rendezvous point (RP) might be the solution.

I believe changing the destination multicast address to 239.1.1.1 could also solve the problem.

Haha, I bet the network admin is pulling their hair out trying to figure this one out. I'd probably just call in the IT superhero team for this one!

Wait, why would you change the multicast address? That doesn't seem like the right approach at all.

I'm going with option C. Defining the stream on the RP should fix the issue with clients receiving unwanted traffic.

Option C is a good choice. Defining the stream on the RP will help.

I agree with Gracia, enabling IGMP should fix the issue.

Definitely option A. IGMP is the key to controlling multicast traffic, so that's the logical choice here.

I agree, without IGMP properly configured, multicast traffic can cause issues.

Option A) Verify that IGMP is enabled between the switches connecting the multicast source and receivers

Hmm, this seems like a tricky one. I'm leaning towards option B, but I'm not completely sure.
