VEEAM Exam VMCE2021 Topic 1 Question 27 Discussion

Actual exam question for VEEAM's VMCE2021 exam
Question #: 27
Topic #: 1
[All VMCE2021 Questions]

An administrator is reviewing backup jobs and notices that backups of VMware VMs that are located on a SAN are taking longer than normal to back up. What could be a cause of this?

Show Suggested Answer Hide Answer
Suggested Answer: C

When the backup proxy fails over to Network mode, it can impact the backup performance, especially for VMs located on a SAN. In Network mode, the backup traffic is transferred over the network rather than utilizing direct SAN access or VMware vStorage APIs for Data Protection (VADP). This can result in increased backup times due to the additional network overhead and slower data transfer rates.

Wait, the backup proxy can fail over to Network mode? That's news to me. I'd probably go with C as well, but I'm curious to learn more about this 'Network mode' thing.

D sounds like the most straightforward solution. Changing the backup repository to a Scale-out Backup Repository could help distribute the workload and speed up the backups.

Haha, the backup proxy failing over to Virtual Appliance mode? That's a good one! I doubt that's the issue here. I'd go with C as the most likely cause.

I think the backup proxy failing over to Network mode could be causing the issue.

Hmm, I'm not sure about that. I think it could also be B - the guest interaction proxy failing over to data access mode. That could impact the backup performance as well.

I think the answer is C. The backup proxy failing over to Network mode would definitely slow down the backup process for VMs on a SAN.

Maybe the backup repository needs to be changed to a Scale-out Backup Repository as well.

That's true, both scenarios could cause backups of VMware VMs on a SAN to take longer.

But it could also be the guest interaction proxy failing over to data access mode.
