I feel like splunkd.log would have a lot of useful information, but I can't recall if splunkd_stderr.log is more relevant for crashes.

I'm not entirely sure, but I remember a practice question where the crash log was the most relevant. Maybe the crash-2022-05-13 log is the best one to look at?

I think the splunk_instrumentation.log might not be very useful since it usually tracks performance metrics rather than crashes.

I think the splunkd.log would be the best choice here. That log file should contain the most detailed information about the Splunk processes and any issues that led to the crash.

Okay, I think I've got this. A is true, the connectors do need to be installed on both ends. C is also true, ODBC is available on multiple platforms. I'm a bit unsure about the others, but I'll make my best guess.
