This question is a real head-scratcher. It's like they're trying to trip us up with some obscure Salesforce quirk. I'm just going to go with my gut and hope for the best. (Spoiler alert: it's never the gut.)

I think the issue might be that the Contact has indirect relationships to other Accounts.

A) Private Contacts need to be enabled in Setup? Really? That's like saying you need to turn on the power to make the computer work. Come on, Salesforce, let's not make this too easy, shall we?

D) The Account Contact relationship record needs to be deleted first in order to disassociate the Contact from the Account. Ah, the old 'delete the record to make the problem go away' approach. Classic Salesforce.

B) A primary Account relationship is required on a Contact regardless of the page layout settings? That seems a bit odd. I thought the whole point of updating the page layout was to remove that requirement.

But what about option D? Maybe the Account Contact relationship record needs to be deleted first.

I agree with Dona, that could be the reason why the rep is unable to remove the primary Account.

C) The Contact has indirect relationships to other Accounts seems like the most likely culprit here. I've run into this issue before and it can be a real pain to untangle.

I haven't, but that's a good suggestion. I'll give it a try.

Have you tried deleting the Account Contact relationship record first?

I think you're right, the indirect relationships can cause issues.

I agree with Celestina, that could be the reason why the primary Account can't be removed.
