Hmm, I'm a bit unsure about this one. The requirement to scale automatically and be cost-effective makes me think S3 might be the better option, since it's highly scalable and relatively inexpensive. But then again, the SQL querying part is a bit tricky with S3. I'll have to think this through carefully.
