Topic #: 1
[All PMP Questions]

In an agile environment, a project is running iteration four out of six. A team member leaves the company with no replacement.

What should the project manager do?

Show Suggested Answer Hide Answer
Suggested Answer: A

According to the PMBOK Guide, an issue log is a project document that records problems in a project and how they are resolved. A resource management plan is a component of the project management plan that describes how resources will be estimated, acquired, developed, managed, and controlled. When a team member leaves the company, the project manager should update the issue log with the details of the problem and the impact on the project. Then, the project manager should refer to the resource management plan to find out how to deal with the resource gap, such as reassigning tasks, hiring a new team member, or requesting additional resources from the sponsor or other stakeholders.

Asking the sponsor for help sounds reasonable, but will they actually do it?

Wait, can they really just pull someone from another team like that?

Definitely not asking the team for extra work! That's just unfair.

I recall that involving the sponsor for help can be a good strategy, especially if the team is already stretched thin. That might be the best move here.

Reducing the scope could be a viable option, but I feel like it might upset stakeholders. I need to think more about the implications.

I think asking the team for extra work might lead to burnout. We practiced a similar question where it was about balancing workload.

I remember we discussed how important it is to manage resources effectively in agile, but I'm not sure if updating the issue log is enough.

Updating the issue log and following the resource management plan sounds like the most straightforward approach. Gotta stick to the processes, you know?

I think reaching out to the sponsor for an experienced team member is a good idea. That could help fill the gap and keep the project on track.

Hmm, I'm not sure. Asking the team to take on extra work could be risky in an agile environment. Maybe reducing the scope is the safest option here.

This seems like a tricky situation. I'd want to review the resource management plan and see if there are any contingency plans in place for this type of scenario.

If the project manager asks the team for extra work (option B), they'd better start looking for a new job. That's a surefire way to lose your team and derail the project.

I'm surprised option A is even an option. Updating the issue log is great, but it doesn't actually solve the problem of a missing team member. The project manager needs to take action, not just document the issue.

Option B is a terrible idea. Asking the team for extra work is just going to burn them out. The project manager should be finding ways to ease the burden, not add to it.

I'd go with option D. Bringing in an experienced team member from the company is the smartest move. The project team needs all the help they can get to stay on track.

Option C is the way to go. Reducing scope is the best approach when you lose a team member. Stakeholders need to be informed, and the project can be adjusted accordingly.
