I vaguely remember something about MP-BGP keepalive messages, but I can't remember if they are specifically for maintaining adjacencies in MVPNs.

I think I remember that BGP Auto Discovery does require MPLS LSPs for the P-tunnels, but I'm not entirely sure if that's the only requirement.
