Which of these is an example of postrenal acute kidney injury (AKI)?

Show Suggested Answer Hide Answer
Suggested Answer: A

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is an example of postrenal acute kidney injury (AKI). Postrenal AKI, as the name suggests, involves an effect 'post' or 'beyond' the kidney, to problems that emerge downstream from the kidney. BPH is one such example of that. Other examples include kidney stones, bladder stones and bladder cancer.

I thought heart failure could cause AKI too?

A is definitely postrenal AKI.

I’m confused about D, renal vein thrombosis. I thought that was more about blood flow issues, not obstruction.

I practiced a question like this, and I think dehydration is more prerenal too, so that rules out C.

I’m not entirely sure, but I remember something about heart failure being more related to prerenal causes.

I think postrenal AKI is related to obstruction, so I’m leaning towards A, benign prostatic hyperplasia.

ShopTab sounds like the most likely option here. I'm pretty confident that's the right answer.

I vaguely remember practicing some similar questions, and I think it was all about precision measuring, but IV and V don't seem right.

Hmm, I'm a bit unsure about this one. The frequency band and channel bonding options seem important, but I'll need to think through the tradeoffs.
