SCENARIO -- Please use the following to answer the next QUESTION:

Singabank is a boutique bank in Singapore. After being notified during the hiring process, Singabank employees are subject to constant and thorough monitoring and tracking through CCTV cameras, computer monitoring software and keyboard loggers. Singabank does this to ensure its employees are complying with Singabank's data security policy. Bigbank is now considering acquiring Singabank's retail banking division. As part of its due diligence, Bigbank is seeking for Singabank to disclose to it all of its surveillance material on its employees, whether or not they are part of the retail banking division. Jimmy works in Singabank's investment banking division.

Assuming the monitoring was legal, can Singabank disclose Jimmy's personal data to Bigbank?

Wow, Singabank is really going all out with the surveillance, huh? Maybe they should just install microchips in their employees' brains while they're at it.

Haha, looks like Jimmy's going to need a really good hiding spot from all those cameras and monitors at Singabank. Maybe he can just change his name and move to the Cayman Islands.

Well, if it's legally allowed and the data is necessary for the acquisition, then I suppose Singabank can share it. But I hope Jimmy has a good lawyer on speed dial just in case.

I guess Singabank could disclose the data if they tell Jimmy first, but that's still a huge breach of trust. Poor Jimmy, his privacy is being invaded.

I agree, it wouldn't make sense for Singabank to disclose Jimmy's personal data in that situation.

No way, what a violation of privacy! Jimmy's personal data should never be disclosed to Bigbank just because they're acquiring the retail division. That's messed up.

But what if Jimmy's data is necessary for Bigbank to make an informed decision about the acquisition?

I agree with you, Mose. The data was collected for privacy compliance, not for acquisition purposes.
