Well, if the device is meant for industrial use, I'd guess they want a neutral pH of 7. Anything too acidic or basic might damage the internal components.

Hmm, I'm pretty sure the water quality requirements for the NetCol8000-E220 are strictly between 6 and 8. Any other pH value would be way off the mark.
