Option A sounds like a good compromise, but I think B is the clear winner here. Separating the read replica from the primary and standby is a smart move.

Haha, option D is like putting all your eggs in one basket! I'll have to go with B, it's the Google-recommended practice and makes the most sense.

Yeah, option D does seem risky. B sounds like the safer choice.

But Google recommends having primary and standby instances in different zones for high availability, so I still think option A is the way to go.

D is a no-go. Putting all the instances in the same zone defeats the purpose of high availability. I agree with B - that's the simplest and most effective solution.

B) Configure the primary and standby instances in zone A and the read replica in zone B, all in the same region.

Option C seems like overkill to me. Why spread the instances across multiple regions when you can get high availability within a single region? I'd go with option B.

That's a good point. Option B does provide high availability within the same region.

But wouldn't it be safer to have them in different zones within the same region?

I think option B is the way to go. Keeping the primary and standby in the same region ensures low latency, while the read replica in a different zone provides some geographic diversity.

I think we should go with option C then, to ensure our database is highly available across different regions.

That's a good point, maybe option C would be the best choice for maximum high availability.

But wouldn't it be better to have the read replica in a different region for even more redundancy?

I agree, option B sounds like a good balance between low latency and geographic diversity.

In that case, option B might be the best compromise for our setup.

That's true, but having the primary and standby in the same region can help with failover scenarios.
