GIAC GSNA Exam - Topic 2 Question 71 Discussion

Actual exam question for GIAC's GSNA exam
Question #: 71
Topic #: 2
[All GSNA Questions]

You work as a Network Administrator for Net Perfect Inc. The company has a Windows Server 2008 network environment. The network is configured as a Windows Active Directory-based single forest network. You configure a new Windows Server 2008 server in the network. The new server is not yet linked to Active Directory. You are required to accomplish the following tasks:

Add a new group named "Sales". Copy the "Returns" group from the older server to the new one.

Rename the "Returns" group to "Revenue". View all group members, including for multiple groups/entire domain.

You use Hyena to simplify and centralize all of these tasks. Which of the assigned tasks will you be able to accomplish?

Each correct answer represents a complete solution. Choose all that apply.

Show Suggested Answer Hide Answer
Suggested Answer: A, B, C

Hyena supports the following group management functions:

Full group administration such as add, modify, delete, and copy

Rename groups

Copy groups from one computer to another

View both direct and indirect (nested) group members for one or more groups [only for Active Directory]

View all group members, including for multiple groups/entire domain [only for Active Directory]

Answer D is incorrect. All group members can neither be viewed nor managed until the new server is linked to Active Directory.

Viewing all group members sounds like something Hyena can do, especially for multiple groups, but I need to double-check if it covers the entire domain too.

Adding a new group like "Sales" seems straightforward, but I wonder if it needs to be linked to AD first.

I practiced a similar question where we had to rename groups, and I feel like Hyena should allow that, but I can't recall the exact steps.

I think I remember that Hyena can help with copying groups, but I'm not sure if it can do that for a server that's not linked to Active Directory yet.

I'm a bit concerned about the new server not being linked to Active Directory. I'll need to research the proper way to integrate it before attempting any of these changes. But I think I can figure it out with Hyena's help.

This seems like a good opportunity to demonstrate my Active Directory management skills. I'll make sure to carefully follow the steps and use Hyena to efficiently complete all the required tasks.

Okay, let's see. I can definitely add the new "Sales" group and copy the "Returns" group over. Renaming the "Returns" group to "Revenue" should be easy too. Viewing all the group members might be the trickiest part, but Hyena should make that straightforward.

I bet the person who wrote this question is a real 'Returns' on investment kind of guy. But hey, at least we get to play with Hyena, that's always fun!

This is a piece of cake! A, C, and D are all doable with Hyena. B is the tricky one, but who needs 'Returns' anyway, 'Revenue' sounds much better.
