Show Suggested Answer Hide Answer
Suggested Answer: B

IKE_SA_INIT Exchange:

The IKE_SA_INIT exchange is the first step in the IKEv2 negotiation process. It is responsible for setting up the initial security association (SA) and performing Diffie-Hellman key exchange.

During this exchange, the responder may employ various measures to protect against Denial of Service (DoS) attacks, such as rate limiting and the use of puzzles to increase the computational cost for an attacker.

DoS Protection Mechanisms:

One key method involves limiting the number of half-open SAs from any single IP address or subnet.

The IKE_SA_INIT exchange can also incorporate the use of stateless cookies, which help to verify the initiator's legitimacy without requiring extensive resource allocation by the responder until the initiator is verified.

RFC 5996: Internet Key Exchange Protocol Version 2 (IKEv2) (RFC Editor).

RFC 8019: Protecting Internet Key Exchange Protocol Version 2 (IKEv2) Implementations from Distributed Denial-of-Service Attacks (IETF Datatracker).

Refused connection due to port mismatch, can't reach the IP, and incompatible software - yep, those are the biggies. Although a full log could be a fun way to get the collector agent in trouble for hoarding all the log space!

I also think that incompatible collector agent software version could be a potential issue. It's important to check for that as well.

Haha, a mismatched pre-shared password? Sounds like someone's been sharing their passwords around! But seriously, A, C, and E are the obvious ones to focus on.

I agree with Oneida. Those are the key things to look at. Although a full log on the collector agent could also be an issue worth investigating.

I agree with Maurine. Those issues seem to be the most likely ones based on the FSSO real-time debug.

A, C, and E seem like the most likely issues I'd check for. The FortiGate needs to be able to reach the collector agent's IP, and the software versions need to be compatible.

I think the common issues could be refused connection, mismatched pre-shared password, and inability to reach IP address.
