I agree with Camellia. The VSL is the critical link that keeps the two controllers in sync, so if that goes down, it's a recipe for disaster. I'd bet that's the right answer.

Haha, I can just imagine the controllers arguing with each other, 'No, I'M the active one!' This is the kind of question that really makes you think about the underlying architecture and how it's supposed to handle failures.

Haha, yeah, imagine if the distribution ports went down and the controllers were just sitting there, like 'Hello? Can anyone hear me?' That would be a pretty funny situation, if it wasn't so serious.

You know, I was also considering option B, with both distribution ports on the active controller going down. That would effectively isolate the active controller, right? But I think you guys are probably right about the VSL being the bigger issue.
