Hydropower involves:

Show Suggested Answer Hide Answer
Suggested Answer: D

'Hydro' means 'water'.

As a child in Scotland, I remember visiting a hydro-electric power station, where a dam had been built across a river, with the dammed water used to generate electric power.

As a slightly older child, I used to routinely watch a BBC2 test television broadcast which was all about the building of the Kariba dam for a similar purpose, with huge environmental and social con-sequences. Many other such dams have been build since, including, for example, the Aswan dam. Often such projects attract criticism because of the effects on the environment as well as on people.

I’m torn between water and coal, but I feel like hydropower has to be about water.

I'm a little confused on this one. I know hydropower is a renewable energy source, but I can't recall if it's specifically related to water or not. I'll have to make an educated guess and go with D.

Water makes the most sense to me for hydropower. I remember learning about how dams and turbines are used to convert the energy in flowing water into electricity. I'll select D.

Hmm, I'm a bit unsure on this one. I know hydropower is related to water, but I can't remember the exact details. I'll have to think it through carefully.

Okay, let's see. Hydropower... that's got to be using water to produce energy, right? I'm going to go with D on this one.

I'm going with D) Water on this one. Hydropower is literally power from water. Although, I did hear about a new 'hydrowind' technology that combines hydropower with wind turbines. Who knows, maybe that's the future of renewable energy!

Water is definitely the key component in hydropower generation, it's a sustainable and clean energy option.

D) Water, obviously. Hydropower is all about harnessing the power of moving water to produce electricity. Unless they're talking about some kind of 'hydro-solar' or 'hydro-coal' technology, which would be pretty wild.

Hmm, let me think... Hydropower, that's gotta be something to do with water. I'm going with D) Water. Although, a coal-powered hydroplant would be an interesting concept.
