Which microphone type has a basic cardioid pick up pattern?

Show Suggested Answer Hide Answer
Suggested Answer: B

A cardioid microphone has a heart-shaped (or ''cardioid'') pick-up pattern that captures sound primarily from the front while rejecting sound from the rear. The pattern shown for Type(b) aligns with a typical cardioid response, featuring a coverage angle of approximately 131, which indicates its directional sensitivity towards the front and rejection from the back.

I remember learning about the different mic types in class, but I'm drawing a blank on which one is cardioid. I'll have to use the process of elimination on the options.

The cardioid pattern is a classic for vocal mics, so I'm guessing it's Type(a). The image gives a good visual reference to compare the pickup patterns.

Hmm, the image shows the different microphone types, but I'm not totally sure which one has the cardioid pattern. I'll have to think this through.

I'm pretty sure the cardioid pick up pattern is associated with Type(a), but I'll double-check the image to confirm.

Type(d) might as well be called the 'omnidirectional' microphone. If I want to pick up the entire room, I'll use that. But for vocals, it's gotta be A.

I've used Type(c) before, and it didn't have the focused pickup I was looking for. Gotta go with A on this one.

I'm not sure, but I think Type(a) makes sense because cardioid mics are known for their directional pick up pattern.
