I'm leaning towards option D with the two Master-detail relationships on a new custom object. That seems like it would give us the most control and flexibility over the relationship between Contacts and Solar Projects. But I'm not 100% sure, so I'll need to double-check my understanding.

If Smart Account Sync is not used, then the authorized serial number file must be uploaded through a different component. My money's on the WAN Edge router.
