I think D is the correct answer. A contract tester who has never worked for the organization before would have the most unbiased perspective and the highest level of test independence.

I agree, D makes sense. A contract tester would have fresh eyes.

D, definitely. A contract tester who's never worked with the organization before? That's like a fresh pair of eyes, no baggage. Unless they're a time-traveling tester from the future, in which case they'd have the highest level of independence.

But wouldn't a business analyst who wrote the original requirements also have a high level of independence?

Hmm, I'm not sure. I guess I'd have to go with B. A permanent programmer who reviewed some of the new code, but has not written any of it, would be more independent than a business analyst who wrote the original requirements.

I disagree, I think C is the right answer. A permanent tester who found most defects in the original system would have the deepest understanding of the system and would be able to test it more thoroughly.

I think the correct answer is D. A contract tester who has never worked for the organization before would have the highest level of test independence, as they would not have any preconceived notions or biases towards the system.

I see your point. It's important to consider the level of independence when assembling a test team for system enhancements.

That's true, but I think the contract tester would still have more independence since they are completely new to the organization.
