ARDMS AB-Abdomen Exam - Topic 4 Question 19 Discussion

Posted by Sharee on Sep 30, 2026 at 03:11 PM

Which pancreatic condition is commonly associated with complete or partial atresia of the duodenum?

Suggested Answer: D

Annular pancreas is a congenital anomaly in which pancreatic tissue encircles the second part of the duodenum, potentially causing partial or complete duodenal obstruction (atresia). It is due to abnormal migration of the ventral pancreatic bud.

According to Rumack's Diagnostic Ultrasound:

''Annular pancreas results from failure of the ventral pancreatic bud to rotate properly, leading to encirclement of the duodenum.''

I keep mixing up the conditions. I know annular pancreas is a possibility, but I thought pancreatic cysts could also be involved somehow.

I remember practicing a question similar to this one, and I think it was about congenital anomalies. Could it be C) Pancreatic agenesis?

I feel like we covered this in class, but I can't recall the specifics. Wasn't there something about pancreas divisum being related to other conditions?

I think the answer might be D) Annular pancreas, but I'm not completely sure. I remember it being linked to duodenal issues.
