Actual exam question for ARDMS's AB-Abdomen exam
Question #: 2
Topic #: 2
[All AB-Abdomen Questions]

Which retroperitoneal finding is most likely associated with trauma?

Show Suggested Answer Hide Answer
Suggested Answer: C

Urinomas are collections of urine in the retroperitoneum that result from trauma, surgery, or obstruction causing urine leakage. Trauma is a frequent cause of urinoma formation due to disruption of the urinary tract.

According to Rumack's Diagnostic Ultrasound:

''Urinomas may develop as a complication of trauma, surgery, or obstructive uropathy with urinary extravasation into the retroperitoneum.''

But fibrosis isn't directly linked to trauma like urinoma is.

I feel like B) Fibrosis could be a trick option.

Definitely C) Urinoma. It's a common post-trauma finding.

I'm torn between C and A. Neuroblastoma is rare though.

Agreed! Urinoma makes sense after an injury.

I didn't know Urinoma was linked to trauma like that!

C) Urinoma is the way to go. Trauma is most likely to cause a leak or collection of urine in the retroperitoneal space.

Haha, I bet the answer is C) Urinoma. That's the only one that doesn't sound like a fancy name for a medical condition.

I'm going with C) Urinoma. It's the only option that seems directly related to a traumatic injury in the retroperitoneal area.

Definitely C) Urinoma. Trauma can cause a rupture in the urinary system, leading to a urinoma in the retroperitoneal space.

I’m really unsure about this one. Neuroblastoma doesn’t seem like it fits with trauma, but I could be wrong.

I’m leaning towards urinoma as the answer, but I’m not confident. Fibrosis seems more chronic, right?

I feel like we practiced a question similar to this, and I think it was about retroperitoneal hematomas being associated with trauma.

I feel pretty confident about this one. Retroperitoneal trauma often leads to urine leakage and the formation of a urinoma. That's gotta be the best answer here.

Okay, let's see. Neuroblastoma and adenoma are tumors, so those are less likely. Fibrosis is more of a chronic process. I'm going to go with C) urinoma.

I think the answer is C) Urinoma. That makes the most sense for a retroperitoneal finding related to trauma.

I'm a bit confused on this one. I know trauma can cause fluid collections, but I'm not sure which one is most likely. Gonna have to review my notes.

Urinoma, definitely. That's got to be the most likely traumatic finding in the retroperitoneal space.

Hmm, this seems like a tricky one. I'll need to think carefully about the retroperitoneal anatomy and common traumatic injuries.
