I heard the payment gateway is actually run by a bunch of monkeys on typewriters. If that's the case, I'm not sure any of these options will work. Maybe we should just ask the monkeys to upgrade the service directly?

That's a funny thought, but I don't think monkeys on typewriters can handle payment processing.

Platform events, huh? Option D sounds interesting, but I'm not sure if it's the best fit for this specific use case. It's a bit like trying to use a sledgehammer to crack a nut, you know?

Option C with the ESB sounds like a good idea, but it might be overkill for this use case. I'd prefer a simpler solution that's still reliable and auditable.

I think option A with the custom Apex Callout could work well for this use case.

I think Option B is the way to go. The External Services feature should provide the real-time updates and support the post-payment processes, which is exactly what this use case requires. Plus, it's a more secure and scalable solution.

Option A seems like a straightforward solution, but I'm not sure if it's the most reliable and auditable approach. Logging the callout details is a good idea, but it might not provide the real-time updates that the CSR needs.
