Universal Connect (UC) sells several mobile devices to its customer. UC has several attribute like color, storage and screen size that are common across mobile devices. UC is looking for recommendation around efficiency them using SFI product catalog. How should consultant model the product catalog for UC?
EPC Object Types provide inheritance for products that share common characteristics. A specialized Mobile Offer Spec Type should contain mobile-specific attributes such as color, storage, and screen size and inherit the generic properties of the Base Offer Spec Type. Individual mobile-device offers should then be associated with the specialized mobile type so that common configuration is defined once and reused consistently. This is the decisive architectural point in this scenario because the Salesforce Industries model separates commercial selling concerns from fulfillment, lifecycle, and integration concerns. Putting mobile-specific characteristics on the base type exposes them to unrelated offers, while associating device offers only with the base type bypasses the specialized inheritance layer. The subtype architecture keeps the catalog normalized and extensible. Using the standard capability also keeps the design supportable across releases, reduces unnecessary custom code, and makes operational behavior easier to trace during troubleshooting. From an implementation perspective, the configuration should be tested with representative product structures and transaction volumes so that rules, mappings, and downstream dependencies behave exactly as intended. The resulting design is therefore both functionally correct and aligned with the managed Communications Cloud operating model.
