Good point, Margret. SAML is a great choice. As for the third option, I'm thinking RADIUS could work too. It's a popular authentication protocol that can handle user attributes like roles.

True, LDAP can handle user attributes well. So, SAML, RADIUS, and LDAP could be the three services to provide the NGFW with username and role names.

I agree, LDAP is a no-brainer. And SAML is another option - it's a widely used single sign-on protocol that can pass along user identity information, including roles.
