I'm pretty confident the answer is D. A repository-based exchange makes the most sense for a mechanism that uses a shared database accessible by multiple tools. The other options don't seem to fit that description.
Okay, let me see. A manual exchange wouldn't use a database, and a file-based exchange is just sharing files, not a shared database. Interaction-based exchange also doesn't sound like it involves a database. So I'm going to go with D) repository-based exchange.
