I feel like R3 is a strong candidate since it's the next hop, but I also remember that the MP could sometimes be further down the path.

I practiced a similar question where the PLR was also the MP, but I don't think that's the case here. Could it be R2 instead?

I think the Merge Point is usually the router right after the PLR, so maybe R2? But I'm not entirely sure.
