Haha, I can just imagine Prometheus trying to 'ping and query' services using ICMP and SNMP. That's definitely not how it works. C is the winner!

Option E sounds interesting, but I don't think running scripts on the Prometheus server is the way it gathers information. C is definitely the right answer here.
