Question #: 22
Topic #: 4
[All ISSAP Questions]

You work as a Network Administrator for McRoberts Inc. You are expanding your company's network. After you have implemented the network, you test the connectivity to a remote host by using the PING command. You get the ICMP echo reply message from the remote host. Which of the following layers of the OSI model are tested through this process? Each correct answer represents a complete solution. Choose all that apply.

Show Suggested Answer Hide Answer
Suggested Answer: A, B, D

the connectivity is to be tested. The remote host replies with an ICMP echo message. The successful completion of this process shows that

the IP network is working properly. ICMP does not rely on any application and hence tests only the basic IP connectivity through layers 1, 2,

and 3 (i.e. the Physical, Data link, and Network layers).

Layer 1 is a stretch, but I guess it could be indirectly tested.

Wait, does PING even test Layer 2? I'm not so sure.

Yeah, Layer 3 for sure, but Layer 4? Not so much.

I think Layer 2 is involved too, right?

Definitely Layer 3, that's where IP operates.

I practiced a similar question where we discussed the OSI layers, and I think Layer 4 might not be involved since PING uses ICMP, which is a Layer 3 protocol.

I'm a bit unsure about Layer 2. I know it deals with MAC addresses, but does PING test that too?

I remember that PING primarily operates at Layer 3, so I think that's definitely one of the answers.

I feel like Layer 1 could be relevant since it involves the physical connection, but I'm not entirely sure if PING tests that directly.

I'm not entirely sure about the difference between an exception and an exclusion, but I think it has to do with how they are applied in rules or alerts. I'll need to review my notes to be more confident in my answer.

Okay, I've got this. The monthly recapitulation they're asking about is clearly an "account current" - it's a summary of the premium and commission activity between the insurer and intermediary.
