Why should you use PowerCenter Metadata Exchange (MX) views rather than querying the PowerCenter repository tables directly- i.e. the ones that begin with OPB_?

AQuerying the PowerCenter repository tables directly is a violation of the PowerCenter license and terms of use.

BPowerConter repository tables store most data in proprietary binary format and hence are not directly readable. This binary format improves performance.

CStored (hard-coded) queries against the repository tables may become invalid upon a repository version upgrade due to the fact that the repository table structures may change.

DIt is not possible to query the repository tables directly.

Using the MX views is definitely the way to go. Querying those repository tables directly sounds like a recipe for disaster, especially with all the potential version changes.
