Actual exam question for IIBA's CBDA exam
Question #: 12
Topic #: 1
[All CBDA Questions]

A future state data model is created to depict how information will be structured in a proposed solution but the analyst is also interested in modeling how and when data is transformed throughout various processes across the organization. In which model would the analyst find this information?

Show Suggested Answer Hide Answer
Suggested Answer: B

A data flow diagram (DFD) is a graphical representation of how data flows and transforms through a system or process. A DFD shows the sources and destinations of data, the data inputs and outputs, the data transformations and logic, and the data stores and flows. A DFD can help the analyst model how and when data is transformed throughout various processes across the organization, as well as identify potential data quality issues, bottlenecks, and redundancies. A DFD can also complement a future state data model by showing the relationships and dependencies among the data entities and attributes.Reference:

Physical data model is more about structure, not transformation.

Wait, is there really a model just for data transformation? Sounds interesting!

I thought the physical data model was more about the actual database structure, not the transformation processes.

I feel like the data transformation model could be relevant, but I can't recall if that's specifically what it's called.

I'm not entirely sure, but I remember something about process flows being more about the steps rather than the data itself.

I think the data flow diagram might be the right choice since it shows how data moves and transforms through processes.

I'm a little confused by the wording of this question. It seems to be mixing concepts of data modeling and process modeling. I'm not sure if the "future state data model" is referring to the physical data model or something else. I'll have to make an educated guess on this one.

Okay, I think I've got this. The question is asking about modeling the transformations that happen to data across the organization. That sounds like it's referring to the data transformation model, so I'm going to go with C.

Hmm, I'm a bit unsure about this one. The question mentions a "future state data model," so I'm wondering if that's referring to the physical data model. But then it also talks about transformations, which makes me think it could be the data transformation model. I'll have to think this through carefully.

This seems like a straightforward question about data modeling. I think the key is to focus on the part about "how and when data is transformed throughout various processes." That sounds like it's asking about the process flow or data flow, so I'll go with A or B.

I remember practicing a question that mentioned what a PPM company does, and it feels like it might be closer to this situation. They manage contracts, right?

Hmm, this looks like a tricky one. I'll need to think carefully about where the VIOM management server information might be stored.

This seems straightforward - the customer wants to reduce costs and environmental impact, so I'll go with sustainability and cost efficiency.

This looks like a pretty straightforward question. I think the key is to identify the required functionality and then match the appropriate profiles.

None of the above? Really? I feel pretty confident that one of those options should work. I'm leaning towards the Trusted Subsystem pattern, but I'll double-check the details before committing to an answer.
