Okay, I think I've got this. The key is to hide the event or milestone before it actually happens, so I'd go with option A to hide it on the component page properties.
This looks like a pretty straightforward Excel task. I'd use the Evaluate Formula option to check the calculations and make sure the month-to-month, quarter-to-quarter, and year-to-year variances are all working correctly.
If I recall correctly, the async queue does enable them to revert to stateless, but was that for all types of exchanges? I'm a bit uncertain on the details.
