VMware's storage resources can be provided through VMFS, native direct-attached storage via ESXi host-FC / FCOE or iSCSI link of the shared storage. You can also share the file system over the NFS network to support third-party NAS storage.
I'm with Joye on this one. C is the way to go. Expanding the quota is the quickest and most reliable solution. No need to get fancy when a simple fix will do the trick.
I'd say a combination of C and D would be best. Expand the quota and enable SmartCompression to maximize the available space. Gotta love those data-saving features!
Definitely go with C. Expanding the file system quota is the most straightforward way to clear the soft quota alarm and ensure new data can be written. Deleting files is a hassle, and compression/deduplication may not be enough on their own.
