Hmm, I'm not totally sure about this. I think the archiving mode is for the online backups, but I can't remember if it's mount or something else to restore the data files. I'll have to think this through carefully.
I'm pretty confident I know the answer to this. Oracle needs to be in archiving mode for online RMAN backups, and you start it in mount mode to restore data files.
I'm a bit confused on the difference between archiving and non-archiving modes. I'll need to review my notes to make sure I understand which one is needed for online backups.
This is a classic Oracle question. Anyone who's been around the database block knows it's B) Archiving and D) mount. It's like asking a pilot how to fly a plane without engines.
I think it's B) Archiving and D) mount. You can't do hot backups without the archive logs, and you need the database in mount mode to restore the data files.
