I feel pretty confident about this one. I remember the rule is that you can use single-row functions in the WHERE clause without a subquery, but you do need a subquery if you want to use them in the HAVING clause. For aggregate functions, it's the opposite - you need a subquery in the WHERE clause but not in the HAVING clause.
