I'm not so sure about using personas for performance testing. Aren't they more for usability? I'd probably go with option C and focus on other test approaches to evaluate the system's performance.

Personas are definitely the way to go for performance testing. Option D is the right choice - use the personas to derive realistic use cases and then script them into performance tests. That's the key to creating a meaningful load simulation.
