Which of the following is a cause of cardiogenic pulmonary edema?

Show Suggested Answer Hide Answer
Suggested Answer: D

Cardiogenic pulmonary edema is primarily caused by left ventricular (LV) noncompliance. When the left ventricle is unable to properly fill or eject blood, pressure increases in the left atrium and pulmonary veins, leading to fluid leakage into the pulmonary interstitium and alveoli, causing pulmonary edema. Elevated PAOP readings, RV chamber enlargement, and pulmonary hypertension are not primary causes of cardiogenic pulmonary edema but can be related to other cardiac conditions. LV noncompliance? Really? I’m not so sure about that.

Pulmonary hypertension? That's a big factor too!

I think RV chamber enlargement can also contribute.

I definitely recall that pulmonary hypertension can lead to edema, but I wonder if it's the main cause in this context.

I'm a bit confused about RV chamber enlargement; I thought that was more related to right-sided heart issues rather than pulmonary edema.

I remember practicing a question about pulmonary edema, and I feel like LV noncompliance was mentioned as a potential cause.

I think elevated PAOP reading could be a cause, but I'm not entirely sure if it's the only one.

I'm pretty confident about this one. Increased left ventricular noncompliance, leading to elevated filling pressures, is a classic cause of cardiogenic pulmonary edema. I'll go with that option.

Wait, I'm confused. Isn't RV (right ventricular) enlargement also a potential cause of pulmonary edema? I'm not sure if that's the same as cardiogenic edema or not. This is trickier than I thought.

Okay, I think I've got this. Elevated PAOP (pulmonary artery occlusion pressure) is a sign of increased left ventricular filling pressure, which can cause fluid to back up into the lungs. That's got to be the right answer here.

Hmm, I'm a bit unsure about this one. I know pulmonary edema can be caused by issues with the heart, but I'm not totally clear on the specific mechanisms. I'll have to think this through carefully.

This looks like a straightforward question about the causes of cardiogenic pulmonary edema. I'll review the options and try to recall the key factors that can lead to this condition.

I believe it could also be LV noncompliance, as the left ventricle may not be able to pump effectively.

Hmm, I'm going to go with D. The others are contributing factors, but noncompliance is the root cause here.

I agree with France, because high PAOP can lead to fluid accumulation in the lungs.

I'm pretty sure it's D. Elevated PAOP can cause cardiogenic pulmonary edema, but that's not the only factor.
